Good, but it's all available online
By DNAunion
*IF* you do not have access to either MSDN or TechNet, then this book is what you need to learn about services in DAX 2012. For such people, it would be a 5-star book.
But I would think that most DAX 2012 developers (and/or their companies) would have a subscription to MSDN. And for those who do, ALL of the information in this book is available online from Microsoft. Basically the only thing the authors did was organize that already-available information into chapters, eliminating the need to navigate the bewildering mesh of links between a myriad MSDN pages - the authors provided structure, order and sequence to that information. But I had already done most of that myself, so I personally found little value in the book.

*It is unique. The contents is written for this book. You will not find it anywhere else.

A good read to understand Services Holistically
By casperkamal
Its very helpful for all AX users new to the Services world, for developers who work on integrating Ax to external systems and for ISV developers who are extending Ax through their non-ax based Add-on’s.
With AX 2012, SOA is slowly getting augmented to core of AX and using Services is extremely significant for developers and a book that focuses on the Services aspect is need of the hour. This is a handy book that can be a quick and effective read. The beginning of this book unveils the key concepts of Service Architecture and Deployment followed by a deep dive into different types of Services ranging from Document services to System services. Every topic is accompanied with necessary screenshots and code examples making it easier to understand. Topics like SysOperationFramework/Document Services are exhaustively covered explaining Custom controllers and Custom UI builders. The AIF Document services in this book explains key concepts like Creating, updating ,deploying and consuming a document service.
The book is well organized with an how- to -do approach through out, It not only helps developers new to services but also experts who build integration products.

A must for any AX2012 Developer
By Tommy Skaue
There are a couple of great books on Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 and this is one of them. I read this book as a preparation for an internal course I did not long ago, and because I already knew SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) is now heavily supported in Dynamics AX 2012.
I found the chapters easy to read and understand, and being the geek I am it was hard to put the book away. It is definitely a good book to have on your tablet/surface while traveling between locations and want something interesting to read.
I would highly recommend this book for any AX2012 developer. Even if you're not planning on developing integration services right now, if you follow the basic recommended guidelines (ie MVC) while building the business operations in AX2012, you risk creating application blocks that is already prepared for SOA - which is golden!
