Can you transform your words to have a positive influence in eight weeks? Sharla Fritz has written "Bless These Lips", a 40-day women's small group Bible study to help you make over your words to influence your world. Using eight different lip products, Fritz shows us how to exfoliate, soothe, plump, line, color, gloss, seal and smile.

Each of these represents the qualities of forgiveness, encouragement, praise, truth, grace, thankfulness, discretion and joy. Each day offers a short devotion and some cute tips about lips and attitudes. There is a Lipstick Lesson and Meaningful Make-over at the end of each day. Day Five was always my favorite with the addition of the Lip Study where you look for the facts, interpret the meaning and pursue the application of a specific Scripture reading.

I don't wear lipstick, but the analogy was cute and right on target. God has given us the gift of speech. It is our responsibility not to turn it into a curse. "Bless These Lips" gives us the opportunity to examine our speech in order to transform our words into encouragement, praise and edification.

Everyone needs this book!

Only a perfect person never offends others by what they say. So declares the Bible! (James 3:2) Sharla Fritz has penned a delightful book to help us speak words that are encouraging, truthful, and joyful! Arranged as a 40 day study for individuals or groups, this seldom-covered topic is handled in a lively, creative manner, making it a fun read. I loved the "Lipstick Lessons" and creative makeup illustrations. The book provides interesting discussion topics for group Bible study, including suggested memory verses and thoughts to help us think about the power of our words.

Creative and Encouraging

Encouraging book with lots of fun tips sprinkled throughout. Some of the topics were pretty convicting, but the author handled them in a way that wasn't condemning at all. Nice to know I'm not the only one that struggles with a runaway mouth sometimes. Uplifting read.

More than Just Another Book on Psychic Development!

"Your Psychic Soul" by Judith Pennington is not just another book on psychic development - or perhaps I should say that it is that and more.

"Your Psychic Soul," doesn't direct us outward or upward - at least not primarily. And it doesn't devote a whole lot of space to God or the angels or communication with those have passed. Instead "Your Psychic Soul" advises us to look within, to the heart of our being - our soul self, which is made of the same sacred stuff as any other spiritual being we may seek to know.

Our soul, Pennington tells us, possesses open access to all information and energies making it an obvious resource for all questions and problems. And she goes on to explain how soul communication is the inner path to psychic awareness, spiritual evolution and eventual enlightenment.

Soul communication may be realized in multiple ways and Pennington presents these approaches through clear and workable sections devoted to psychic development, dreamwork, inspired writing and healing. She does not stop there, however. She also shows us how and why each of these methods works. And this kind of understanding is key, I believe, to a sustained spiritual practice.

As an EEG biofeedback meditation therapist, Pennington, understands the how and the why of consciousness better than most. Her explanation of the four levels of brain activity is understandable and engaging. By sharing her knowledge and research she helps us to understand how meditation and other contemplative practices lead to soul growth and self-actualization.

The levels of consciousness outlined in "Your Psychic Soul" are beta - our conscious mind, alpha - our relaxed sensory awareness, theta - the subconscious mind and source of intuition, creativity and spiritual insight (which Pennington calls the mind of the soul) and delta - the personal unconscious and doorway to universal consciousness.

The practices presented help us to access the mind of the soul by stilling the conscious beta mind - allowing it to receive communication from the deeper levels within. In this our conscious mind is not the enemy but a willing participant and receiver entrusted with the valuable task of bringing these communications back into our ordinary waking reality.

We learn that there is a bridge between our conscious beta and alpha states which leads to the subconscious and unconscious states of theta and delta. Having crossed this bridge, Pennington explains, we allow the deeper levels of theta and delta to supply the conscious mind with a steady stream of ideas, intuition and creative inspiration.

Delving deeper, Pennington explains the wave patterns of awakened and enlightened states, as well as the super-conscious waves of gamma. In a wonderful story of her own research with a group Reiki practitioners she illustrates how profoundly these states can directly influence others making the idea of a worldwide evolution of consciousness seem infinitely possible.

"Your Psychic Soul" provides an understandable and extremely workable approach to psychic development and a valuable guide to soul evolution as well. I consider it a book that can make a very real spiritual difference in the life of anyone who reads it.

In closing Pennington offers suggestions for living an intuitive life which I absolutely loved. I intend to put at least a few into effect!

Perhaps you can feel on a deep unconscious level the evolutionary shift that is underway. Some say that we came here for this shift. If that feels true to you, I hope you will take up a daily meditation practice and host a spiritual study group or Psychic Circle. Fascinating book

I received this book - Your Psychic Soul - yesterday, and have so far just glanced through it and started reading it, but I notice I just can't stay away from it for long. I bought the book out of my interest for meditation. I also have The Awakened Mind by C Maxwell Cade and Awakening the Mind by Anna Wise, and this book is I think even more fascinating in that it in more detail describes and tries to explain the higher states of consciousess that are mentioned by Maxwell Cade and Anna Wise. I started reading Judiths book yesterday and I was immediately fascinated. It explains to me some of the experiences I have had meditating - experiences of the evolved mind pattern, and something that was both fulfilling and a bit scary the first time I felt it strongly, - the strong feeling of not at all being separated from other beings and the outer world, which can - I now understand - also be neurologically explained (page 136). I find it very interesting that the experiences I have while meditating can be explained, and are explained by Judith, also from a scientific and neurological perspective. I will continue reading this book and do the meditations Judith describes, and I think it will be invaluable to me in many ways, maybe most importantly, it will help me in my wish and longing to free all sentient beings from suffering, Filip

Extremely Practical

This is a wonderful, extremely practical guidebook for anyone interested in working toward spiritual development. It features many easy to follow, step-by-step instructions for learning and practicing basic and advanced techniques for quieting and centering the mind.

Judith Pennington, after years of profound study with modern masters like Edgar Cayce, C. Maxwell Cade and Anna Wise, (whose `superlative teacher of meditation' mantle Pennington now wears), shows that she has a comprehensive mastery of the elements of spiritual and psychic development, with special reference to meditation. She attests, "No other endeavor produces the benefits that result from meditation."

The author, also on familiar terms with biofeedback, quantum physics and up-to-the-minute brain research, deftly weaves concepts of ancient spiritual practices with understandings of modern scientific findings, such as the work of Lynn McTaggart and the researchers at Heartmath Institute. Also in the mix are discussions of auric fields, chakras and Cultural Creatives, as well as examples of medical intuitives and spiritual healers.

Your Psychic Soul is a practical book that enhances understanding of the transpersonal realms while transcending religious distinctions.

Excellent Book!

I thought this was a really awesome and fun book with great illustrations. It's a great book for starting discussions with your kids about differences and how different people can still get along.

DON"T BE SO IGNORANT

I have to disagree with one being forced to have a discussion they are not ready to have. My seven your old has this book and loves it. The first time we read it he didn't even notice the two moms. The second or third time he did notice but all I said to him is the same way he has a mom and dad they have a mom and a mom. The end. Not a big issue and if he did want to know more I would have happliy told him what he wanted to know. You don't need to go into big elabroate disscusions and or details. It's all about explaining things to children in an age appropiate level. Not to mention that my son goes to CATHOLIC school where THEY do look down on having "two moms" so he is aware of the fact that having same sex parents can be a negative thing.

THIS BOOK IS GREAT! NOT ONLY IS IT FUN IS ALSO TEACHES TOLERANCE IN ALL LEVELS. Religion, culture,sexuality and anything else people are quick to judge when they don't understand something. You are taught tolerance and respect not born with it.

Another Freckleface winner, Freckleface Strawberry Best Friends Forever

I am so delighted - for all the children in my life - that Freckleface books continue to be written. I have given each book in the series - first Freckleface Strawberry, then Freckleface Strawberry and the Dodgeball Bully, and now Freckleface Strawberry: Best Friends Forever - to dozens of kids of all ages and there isn't one who hasn't been charmed by the stories. Each book has a wonderful message to share and does so in a delightful, engaging way. What's so special about the way the books are written and illustrated is how they draw children in. I love reading them with kids for this reason and hope that we can look forward to yet another as Freckleface helps us deal with some of the challenges of growing up in today's world.

The man who dreamed of faeryland

This summer I decided to reread Spenser. I began with the marriage odes and sonnets, continued to the Shepheard's Calender and then decided to reread the Faery Queene. The amazing beauty of his language endures after all these centuries; I consider him one of English's greatest poets, fresh and vital to this day. Three weeks ago I happened upon this biography in the library. I am not a great fan of biographies of writers and tend to actively dislike long biographies. Even worse, as Hadfield acknowledges in his introduction, the bare facts of Spenser's life would barely fill a sheet or two of closely printed type.

Yet I began to read and was totally immersed in not just who Spenser was, but what it meant to be a poet in Elizabethian England and to be a colonist in 16th century Ireland. Hadfield carefully recreates Spenser's life, the society in which he lived and relates both to Spenser's work. His profound reading of Spenser's poetry overturns superficial judgments linking Spenser and Queen Elizabeth and Spenser and Walter Ralegh and remind the reader just how controversial a poet Spenser was. Elizabethian England comes alive in this book in an extrordinary way. This is one of the best biographies I have ever read; I would rank it with Scholem's Sabbatai Sevi.

While the book is not easy reading, it repays the time and deep attention needed to read it. I think it is worth reading whether you know Spenser's work or not--and if you don't, you may discover a poet with whom you can travel life's road--the man who, as Yeats put it, dreamed of faeryland.

Great book, very thorough

I bought this book for a class, ended up dropping it (before it started), and decided to study the book anyway. This book is very thorough; it has a ton of information in it and is good about explaining the prefixes and suffixes and roots of the terms. They really break down each word to make sure you understand it. They also have actual photos of several different skin disorders and things of that nature, which I found to be useful too.

This was the recommended book to prepare for a medical vocabulary clep test for my physician associate program. Each section is divided by body system and not only contains the roots, prefixes, and suffixes pertinent to that system but also has basic clinical information as well. A great study tool for anyone going into healthcare.

This book goes more into depth than another author had for med term that I had purchased in the past. It addresses chart abbreviations as well, which is a very helpful and relevant tool for those going into the healthcare field. New or used, I would recommend this textbook.

Soon she meets up with three other teen voyagers, all of whom are aware that they have 27 hours to reach a human colony on the coast before something dreadful happens. Their treacherous journey is further complicated in two ways: Ana begins to experience slivers of memory about a superflu brought back by the first explorers of this planet, and the teens are being pursued by a gigantic, sharp-toothed worm: “Long white teeth raging out of a cloud of reddish-brown dust.” Paquette’s main characters and primary action feel a bit perfunctory. However, the backstory, initially revealed through interspersed newspaper articles, presents the intriguing notion of memories as a kind of infection. Quick YA/MG sci-fi read

PARADOX is lean and mean, clocking in at 240 pages. There were times when I could've used more, especially in the latter parts of the novel. But I liked that A. J. Paquette didn't add a lot of padding. What's left is the essential parts of Ana's story. Ana wakes up on Paradox with surgical retrograde amnesia and a note telling her to experience, discover, and survive. It's a pretty confusing way to wake up.

Ana quickly discovers she's not alone on the planet. There's another boy, Todd, who also has amnesia. There's also a giant carnivorous worm. One of these discoveries is more pleasant than the other. Soon, it's a hostile race across the planet to the safety of the colony. But nothing is as it first appears, as Ana is assaulted by strange memories and observes some rather odd happenings.

Despite having no memory, Ana manages to carry the story well with her character. She's independent, tough, and clever. She doesn't have great social skills, but that's not hurting her too much on a far-off planet. It was fun to discover Paradox's secrets with Ana, no matter that some of them weren't hard to see coming.

I also liked the subtle but present diversity in PARADOX. Ana has tan skin, and when she discovers her last name, it is pretty clear that she's Hispanic. A character who shows up later is obviously Asian. And I love that between Todd and Ana, Todd is the scientist and Ana is the warrior. There's no explicit discussion of any of this, because it isn't important to the story. It's just there.

PARADOX blends adventure and horror with its science fiction trappings. I'm not entirely convinced that the plot hangs together, but I'm fascinated by the ideas it explores. Memory and disease are linked in a way that reminds me of the original usage of meme. I do think it would've worked better if Paquette played up the horror elements more, but she keeps PARADOX friendly to younger readers. I do think PARADOX would be a good stepping stone into classic sci-fi like the Four Lords of the Diamond series by Jack Chalker.

Paradox

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Paradox is unique, intense and fast paced post apocalyptic adventure that takes us across the landscape of Paradox, where Ana and three other teens must survive in order to complete their mysterious mission. However they run into trouble in the form of one seriously huge and persist ant worm.

Paradox is written in 3rd person, which is a bit odd at first and I did initially have some trouble falling into the story but once it got started and the mystery becomes incredibly thick I couldn't put it down. This is the sort of book where you truly have no idea what's happening until it's revealed piece by piece, you have to wait it out. It's a bit frustrating at first because there is clearly some info not being shared but at the same time it pushed me to keep reading until the last page. The overall plot I thought was fantastic, it's certainly different and not at all what I was expecting.

The planet of Paradox is a beautifully odd place and extremely creepy at times. I love the details that Paquette gives us from the pink sky to the shifting purple sands. The one down fall with the world building is the lack of actual explanation as to what is happening. There are a few `news clippings' in between chapters that clue you in on things happening on Earth before and after the initial exploration trips, and it helped explain some things but I think I would have liked some more overall.

As the summary says we meet Ana when she has no memory of who she is or why she is on the planet of Paradox, and I initially worried about how much I was actually going to get to know her. However she turned out to be a great character. She's strong, brave, and very willing to go the distance needed in order to survive. All she has is basic `muscle memory' which clues her in on the type of person she use to be. It's really interesting to watch her deal with the memory loss and find comfort in things she doesn't remember doing but feels familiar with. I will say that I don't truly know Todd, Ysa, and Chen all that well, and while it didn't detract from the story as I read it...it is a bit odd once I finished it. There are some slight sprinkles of romance, but not very much and the few moments given are sweet and hopeful.

By the time I put this down and close the cover for good I was incredibly impressed with the way things turned out, because I didn't really expect it to go the way it did. It's a quick read that I blazed through with every free moment I got and I had a hard time pulling myself away from it.

A quick sci-fi fantasy read that readers of all ages may enjoy

The story is told in a simplistic, straightforward style. It doesn't delve much into who the characters are, only ever giving us the information we need to know. Initially, I didn't know what to think about the brevity of the writing. It seemed more like the kind of writing I'd expect from a children's chapter book, and this actually is a book that I'd recommend to middle-grade readers. The writing grew on me, however, and I ended up enjoying this book.

I like how the writing reflects the blank slate that is Ana's mind because she doesn't have prior expectations of the world around her and doesn't have much to base her judgments upon. It also suits her character. Ana isn't one to think much before making decisions. She's your typical passionate, hot-headed teenager. There were times when I wanted to tell her to relax and follow Todd's lead (he's very calm and level-headed), but I do understand her anxiety. After all, she did wake up in a strange world with memories much less any idea about what she's doing there.

Todd makes a great foil for Ana's character, and they make a good team on their trek in the strange world of Paradox. The other characters have their own unique personalities and stories that heighten the mystery of the plot. I especially appreciate how it is during Ana's experiences on Paradox while suffering from memory loss that she, and thus we the readers, learn more about herself than we would have had the weight of her prior experiences influenced her judgments.

In a way, you could say that it is a sci-fi fantasy adventure at heart because the story focuses on the mission and not so much on character development, though Ana does show some signs of growth when she learns to accept her past and move towards the future. At the same time, it is because the plot is so simple that Ana's story carries so much weight.

Ein besonders schneller Anstieg ist vor allem seit dem Zeitpunkt der deutschen Wiedervereinigung zu verzeichnen. Auffallend dabei ist ein überproportional hoher Anteil von Jugendlichen und Heranwachsenden an der Gesamtkriminalität, vor allem die Altersgruppe der 14- 20jährigen ist davon betroffen. In den letzten Jahren wuchs zudem der Anteil der Kinder und Jugendlichen unter vierzehn Jahren, die durch Gewaktdelikte aufgefallen sind.
Aus diesen Zahlen wird deutlich, wie stark sich Kriminalität, insbesondere Gewaltkriminalität, zum Jugendphänomem entwickelt hat.
Aus diesem Sachverhalt heraus stellte sich für uns anfangs die Frage, was unter Gewalt zu verstehen ist und warum gerade bei Jugendlichen die Schwelle zur Gewaltanwendung so niedrig ist und eine so hohe Gewaltbereitschaft besteht.

Therapeutic Exercise:Moving Toward Function

This is an excellent all around manual for the physical therapy student or clinician. It conscisely and effectively covers all of the major areas of orthopedics with a review of neurological and musculoskeletal function and injuries. Hall uses well layed-out diagrams to provide a basis for diagnosis and then treatment with therapeutic exercise. This book is a great reference to add to your book shelf.
