Without a home planet, and unable to stop from falling into a detached sensory limbo called "spacesick," people are at the mercy of the galaxy's many other intelligent alien races. The teen protagonist is a tough loner, making a living on the fringes of a desert economy by playing club sets on her guitar. Her music is also the only thing that helps with the static in her head. She is unprepared for the day that the Noise finally quiets, and a mysterious holographic scientist reveals that she is an experiment, and has become entangled-or inexorably intertwined at the particle level-with a boy named Xan, who is in danger halfway across the known universe. Cade sets out on a quest to find him and makes a few friends along the way. Capetta's writing is jarringly uneven. It's only when the musician gets to know her fellow travelers that the novel becomes more engrossing and easier to follow. The multidimensional secondary characters are the book's strongest elements, while the premise that space is unkind to the human race is believable. Cade and the absent Xan are annoyingly Special with a capita.S, and there are plot and setting holes aplenty. Not Firefly but still enjoyable

The Story:
Entangled is fast paced, entertaining and an overall fun science fiction book. After rereading the summary I shouldn't have been surprised like I was with the strong undertone of music-the cherry-red guitar should have tipped me off. I enjoyed this little bit thrown in and felt it was unique to Cade and her outlook.
As I read any science fiction novel I try to suspend disbelief and buy into the author's explanations and world. Often, there are aspects that cause me to briefly pause and question, and there were a few in Entangled. I don't have a science background so couldn't say how plausible any of this book was but I was able to overlook any questionable parts (mostly her treatment of black holes) and let Capetta take me on her story.
The one aspect I had trouble getting over was the use of the character's slang/curse word. I know that slang is a great way to build on a world and show the differences between theirs and ours. I wish I was the type of person that could overlook its use knowing that in the future our language will be much different. Sadly, I just couldn't get over phrases like "don't slug this up" or "what the slug are you talking about?" I think if it had been anything but `slug' I could have gotten over it far easier. Every time that word popped up I was wrenched from the dialog. Since I read the arc I can only pray it changes in the final version.
You might have heard/seem comparisons to Firefly. This very thing drew me to this book and put it on my TBR list. I didn't really see the similarities but it wasn't so off I felt betrayed. There are a gang of `friends' that rely on each other (to their dismay and annoyance at times) and they travel in space on a ship in the future. These things coincide with Firefly. Where if felt off was on the epic-ness and humor, don't get me wrong, Entangled was fun and entertaining, but never funny or clever to the level of Whedon-ness.
The Characters:
I liked the characters Capetta created. Cade had the tough façade and delicate innards common to young adult heroines. She was spunky and I love that she lost herself in her guitar and music. It was exciting to follow her journey into discovering her past and to decipher `the noise' that haunted her.
The secondary characters were well thought out and detailed in their personalities and descriptions. I felt they each had unique traits and had an interesting dynamic with one another. I think my favorite character out of the entire book was Rennik, the mysterious, seemingly unfeeling alien who pilots their ship. I hope to see a lot more of him in the next book.

Another great feature was that the ship was a living, breathing entity which had opinions and a real presence throughout the book.

I enjoyed reading Entangled and I will be reading the next in the series to see where Capetta takes her characters next.

Beautiful!

The plot and sci-fi were awesome, and were the best things about the book to me. I especially love the quantum entanglement idea! The story and sci-fi world were really interesting, intriguing, and exciting. I also liked how each chapter began with a physics term followed by its definition, and the font for these terms and definitions looked very science-fiction-like; these chapter starters certainly satisfied the quantum physics nerd in me!
As for the characters, though I thought most of the main cast were likable and well-developed (they all had a nice backstory!), I wasn't THAT interested in most of them. However, I was very fascinated by Xan and could for some reason empathize with his backstory most, even though I have obviously never had his life experiences before. It goes without saying that Xan was my favorite character. :D
Furthermore, I enjoyed reading the descriptions of feelings and sensations that Cade felt; the word choices were precise and powerful. :)
Hmm, if I have to think of a critique, I guess there could be more setting description? But then I might be hypocritical, since I'm the kind of reader who is impatient with setting descriptions and will often just skip them, haha.
Overall, a very lovely read!

Enjoyable read!

I just finished Entangled and I have to say I really enjoyed it. I would give it a 3.5 stars if Amazon allowed half ratings, and as is usual for my reviews I round up.
The main character was interesting and sympathetic. While there were points where she felt a bit like a Mary Sue, she was imperfect enough that she felt well-rounded. The dialogue was believable and the descriptions of space and the effects of spacesick were fantastic. I don't usually read this genre. I love sci-fi and fantasy, but usually avoid young adult fiction. However, I enjoyed the easy pace of reading this book and read about half of it in one sitting, always the mark of gripping fiction. My only criticisms are that the writing at the beginning seemed a bit overwrought and the motivations of the characters at the ending were a bit weak.
This story reminded me of a lot of things without feeling like it was copying any of them. It had a similar vibe to the tv show Firefly and other space classics where space travel is realized and the universe feels large. Overall, it was a good read and I look forward to picking up the next one.
