About the Author
Dr. Phil Parshall began his mission service in a Muslim community in Bangladesh. He and his wife, Jule, settled down for twenty years, borrowing and lending cups of sugar, observing weddings, family quarrels and funerals, having their own baby and finding their baby-sitters from among their neighbors. Dr. Parshall completed graduate studies at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (M.A.), Wheaton Graduate School (M.A.), Fuller Theological Seminary (D. Miss.), and Fellowships at Harvard and Yale Divinity School. He has been a missionary among Muslim people for the past 44 years. He also has authored The Cross & The Crescent, Bridges to Islam and Lifting the Veil.

We work with Muslims and this book is a must for anyone who does or wants to. Parshall is one of the formost experts and a reliable and informed author.

Very Comprehensive

ME seeks to discuss what is often termed 'contextualization' in fields of Christian missions. Contextualization deals with how you present the gospel to people outside of your own cultural, religion, worldview, etc., in such a way that they are not adapting to the parts of your life that are non-essential to the gospel? In other words, is it really necessary that every church in the world look like a country church in Missouri? Or should people all over the world be able to adapt their own culture to the gospel? Can they write their own music? Can they forgo baptism if it proves to be too dangerous?
Phil's target group is the "reasonably orthodox Muslim living in a rural area in a country that is predominantly Islamic" (23). So, his opinions on the nature of contextualization for new Christians in Muslims lands revolve around his target group that he has been involved with in his mission work. The average Christian would benefit from reading a book such as this. It will familiarize them with what missions outside of American culture have to deal with and the great lengths they go to carry the gospel to every tribe and nation.
Parshall advocates for a very Muslim looking Christian. He argues that this is necessary given the way that Muslims all across the world view Christians. Basically all dress, culture, lifestyle remain Muslim, but the central message of the gospel is never lost and helps to take the place of the heart of their worship. This, of course, is just a very broad description. The reader can see for him/herself how thorough Parshall is. Virtually every issue you could think of when dealing with missions is covered and addressed in some way or another by him.

This is a must read for anyone involved in missions and/or reaching out Muslims. This would also be a great for any interested in World Religions. The Author does discuss things that I would consider as over-contextualization, but he also labels them as needing more study and discussion.
