I just needed to also address the reviewer who is supposedly involved with GSD rescue/foster. Before poster such remarks you should really do your research. One search of the history of the breed would bring you a boatload of info on this breed. The white color of this beautiful breed should NOT be confused with albinism and other breeds where white is a genetic health fault such as dobermans. There are no health issues related to the color of germans shepherds. White is a color that has always existed within the breed but way back when humans decided it was not a desired color and would actually kill any pups that were born white. I have a beautiful healthy white shepherd whose father is actually a sable and whose mother is a white.
I have read this book and am very glad there is now a book out there on white shepherds. The authors of this book are 2 of the more wellknown breeders and are very knowledgeable of the breed. If you'd like to educate yourself feel free to do some research. Just please don't go making false claims against something you know very little about.

Nice Book!

Having been the owner of a couple of American White Shepherds for well over 14 years, not to mention an avid 'lover' of the dog, I find fault with the review above. Of course the book is "written by fanciers" of the breed. Most dog breed books are. That is no surprise! As for providing "little information regarding the 'genetic frailty' of the breed", American White Shepherds have no distinct genetic defaults in comparison to their colored counterparts. They too can suffer from the same genetic problems that any German Shepherd Dog would. What most people don't understand is that only difference between a GSD and an American White Shepherd, is their color. Unfortunately, they have just always been looked upon as a 'default' simply because of the color of their coat! Any American White Shepherd/GSD owner would enjoy this book.

Great book for those that have, or are interested in a White GSD

Not sure what some of the issues are with the book, after reading it cover to cover. I bought this book after having a white GSD for over a year, and prior to purchasing her, I did a lot of internet research to know what I was getting.
This book has a lot of info, and have found it to be quite accurate.
As mentioned in other reviews, the white GSD is basically the same for physical issues, which is why I went with a breeder that has a joint history/certification. Not a guarantee, but better than random.
I believe for someone looking for general info, this has more than enough...and much more than the internet....without a ton of reading and searching...i.e. I would start here, for anyone interested, or seriously thinking about the breed. Whites do have some interesting personality, that is different from the standard. Everyone I have met that has owned one has pointed these characteristics out, all of them are mentioned in the book.
Cute, lovable, and strong breed. Just love mine.
